Disable RingCentral App Auto-Update on macOS

On macOS, the Ring Central application installs a helper tool that requires privilege elevation to complete the install. Enterprises like ours do not provide administrative privileges to end users, so they can not elevate privileges.

The end result is the user sees a popup requesting authentication for an admin this is difficult to clear. The popup reopens when you click "Cancel" until you close the application and reopen it.

If the RingCentral app was available in the MacApp store this would solve the uodate problem for us.

We use Apple Business Essetials and auto-update the Mac App store applications. Non-store apps like RC required additional management.

Having the RC in the App Store would also allow it to be loaded as part of the (not quite) zero-touch deployment process. Would even accept fewer features version to get a centralized deplyment option.

Two years later and still no movement on this. Disappointing to say the least.

Hi team - your support / community teams are able to hand versions with the update disabled upon request, so looks like you already have the capacity to publish those.

Why not make it easier for IT admins who need to manage updates on behalf of users?

    • We have more than 2k employees with standard permissions and most of them don't use RingCentral because of the annoyance of being constantly prompted to install a new helper tool.

    • That ultimately results in bad PR for RingCentral among the teams who use the tool most (Sales and CS) - there is a churn risk if we don't get these teams able to work having standard perms on their laptops.

PLEASE RingCentral!! This should be an option by default, I cannot believe we have to vote for this to be a thing.
