SMS Messaging Short Code and Extension Numbers

Is there a way we can implement a way to successfully unsubscribe from SMS messages from those who use shortcodes that match user's extensions?

Example: 80468 is a short code for a company's marketing campaign, but if this matches a users extension when the user texts "Stop" it goes to the extension and not the short code number. Without changing their extension is there a way this could be corrected?
