we are unable to text from the main line
Benefit of such feature | this is the main reason we have rc, without it it rc does not function for our business. I would like to use the main line as the receptionist to text from our business |
Product Line | RingCentral App |
Hi everyone, this is planned as a two parter: coming in December 2022, users will be able to select which number their outbound texts are sent through in settings.
Coming later in 2023, users will be able to select their outbound number in the separate messaging window (not just in settings).
This only addresses outbound caller ID. If you would like to see a more shared inbox group texting option, please vote for these ideas:
Is this available yet??? December 2022 has come and gone, and I don't see the feature yet in the latest version of the app.
We avoid using text messaging because this feature has been lacking for so many years.
Meanwhile our clients are practically demanding that we communicate using text messaging, and we would like to do this for our convenience too, but we actively avoid text messaging because we don't want to have clients contacting employees directly to their individual extensions and therefore missing the replies when those employees are busy.
As a tech company, this limitation is getting to be embarrassing at this point.
We will have to switch to a simpler and cheaper VoIP provider with more relevant features like shared messaging if this doesn't get added ASAP.
When is this anticipated to be available? It is causing numerous issues with my company. Only allowing the auto receptionist to see the company texts is a big problem.
Unfortunately thats not the solution either. The operator extension is for voice calls. I clearly recall a specific field that allows you to specify the recipient of text messages sent to the companys main phone number and thats what I need your help with because I need to locate that field.
Sincerely,

There is a way to do this with a 3rd party tool, HelpWise [https://helpwise.io/] although not idea, it does work.
Hi Michael, it will go to the operator extension. Go to admin portal > Phone System > Auto Receptionist > General Settings > Company Call Handling > Operator Ext. Thank you!
Thanks but this doesnt answer my support question that I submitted today. Im wondering where it is in settings that currently specifies the individual who can receive/send text messages on behalf of the company number.
Sincerely,
Mike Sanders, Business Manager

Add a text message queue similar to the call queue
Texts should go to multiple users
The Admin Response of 9/19/22 is unclear. Will multiple users be able to access text messages sent into our company to our main company number and then respond from their RC app, logged into their own user account/ext?
This feature is a no brainer. I was considering canceling our service with
RingCentral as well because we can not text from our main number. If this
feature becomes available soon as proposed we will end up staying with
RingCentral.

Everyone texts these days! Get with it ASAP please. I am looking for other options to switch my company to because this feature is not available. I need any team member in charge of text messages at the time to be able to send and receive them. Thank you.
We only advertise 1 phone # and it is tied to EX. 1. Since I'm the Admin I have the ability to text from the main # or my EX #, my employees do not. We do not use our individual EX #'s in any way and couldn't tell you what they. We certainly don't want our clients getting those #'s and adding them to our contact info. The current set up for our individual EX's: no voice mail and we do not answer calls. All calls and VM are routed through our main advertised #. Having a different EX # appear on our company texts is starting to cause confusion with our clients. Please create a solution by either allowing masking of ex #'s when sending SMS or allow the option to choose which # you text from. We've been living with this for over a year and need a fix ASAP.
I am shocked that RingCentral doesn't have this feature. Almost every other provider even the small ones have the ability for multiple users to be assigned to the text conversation of multiple extensions including the main line. Unfortunately this means I have to stay with my current Vonage account who offers this.
Potential client here testing out the free trial. If this feature isn't available, we will have to go with another provider
This is a critical feature to my insurance agency. I will absolutely switch services if this cannot be done. This was somehow set up before with a previous employee also having access to send and receive messages using the main company #. Now I can't get my new hire set up the same way! Very frustrating!!!
Agreed this would be a huge enhancement and seems to be pretty straightforward. Clients can be directed to text a general phone number and then give us the ability to utilize different routing rules similar to call routing rules for a queue. But giving a manager or really all users apart of the group to see all text messages sent so someone can pick up a conversation if another individual is out of office.
Absolutely necessary! I was just searching on how to set this up and I'm disappointed there's only 160 votes. How to businesses survive without this?
This would help tremendously!
Please make this available. This is critical for my business. Otherwise I will have to find a new phone service provider.
