As we start to make incredible use of your SMS service, we find it would be helpful if we could reply via one of the services mentioned above...Not all of our agents are so savvy as to have and be able to operate a smartphone, and we hope this is a feature we can incorporate!

After further research, the Product team ahas advised that this feature will not be considered. Thank you everyone who provided your use case information.
Jessica,
We would like the ability to utilize email for replying and sending SMS. This is due to our need to receive to and send from call queues. I am not currently aware of a way for call queue members to send texts on behalf of the queue phone number. Currently we have email notifications for SMS sent to the call queue number sent to a group email address but have no way to respond directly or send from that call queue number.
Here's a little more detail and context on our environment and business case:
The majority of our utilization of RingCentral is with users having desk phones and in a retail business setting. Each business location has a main phone number set up as a call queue which includes the team at that location. Each call queue is configured with a group email address for that location so any voicemails or text messages are delivered to the entire team via email. Email works well for delivery as team members are already utilizing email as a normal part of their daily activities. Currently they have little to no need to have a RingCentral app or web session open for their normal activities. It would be ideal to simply reply and send from email instead of have to go to another application.
Really, its business 101. Shouldn't have to demonstrate a need because all cell providers have it. We use a custom CRM that that has the ability to send to ie 4075551212@vtext.com to go to a verizon subscriber. I'm really stuck because of this lacking feature. Cant send texts to ringcentral phone numbers like I can send a fax to 4075551212@rcfax.com help!
Hi Jessica,
I believe most people are looking for the ability to either respond to the email notification received when the line receives an SMS message. For my use, I am looking for the ability to send alerts generated via critical infrastructure to an email gateway for SMS messages, i.e. 5551234567@sms.ringcentral.com, without the need of standing up an SMS gateway.
Hi everyone,
The product team is researching this feature and asking for specific use cases and how you would like this feature to work with the current SMS features in app. If you could please comment your specific use cases, why you would like to use email for SMS instead of the app and traditional SMS interface, this would greatly help the product team. Thank you!
Where are we at with the development of this feature? This is a basic requirement and fulfilled by all major carriers as of this point.
