And every single time, after I close the app, I have to go and switch by default calling back to FaceTime rather than RingCentral... because RC changes it without my permission. (Likewise, it's also aggressive for the RC app to set itself for startup at login without asking.) No app should ever touch the system default settings without first asking permission in a box to be clicked.
An error occurred while saving the comment John commentedThis goes beyond a feature request to the level of a bug in the RC app -- extremely aggressive for it to change the default setting without asking! Every time my client holds a meeting with RC and I simply click the link, the app takes the liberty of changing my default calling setting without permission. Not at all appropriate.
Until this changes, I'm deleting the desktop app.

An error occurred while saving the comment John commentedNO... no... no... please do NOT do this. In fact, do the opposite of this. The RC app takes it upon itself to make RC the default calling app on the Mac already. And it's infuriating. I don't want that to happen at all. And even if I did, I'd prefer to be asked -- and asked only once, during setup -- rather than have the app go ahead and do it automatically. If this starts happening on iOS too, it will drive me crazy.
By the way... I've been on the phone with a couple of RC tech support reps now and, after some suggesting that it was an Apple issue or a settings issue on my machine, I've finally gotten to speak to a senior rep who had them look into it deeper.
She's written back to me to say that it is indeed a flaw of the app and not the fault of the user or Apple. And that we should make sure to request it as a feature update. Hope that will get heard by someone who does the programming.
It should work like this: Upon install and then first run, we should be asked (a) Would you like RingCentral to install an extension and open at startup? and (b) Would you like to make RingCentral your default calling app?
Once this is asked, with an OK or No choice of buttons, it need never be asked again. Simple.
