Implement location support for 911 in VDI environments, Citrix and VMWare
Though the RingCentral client is supported in virtualized environments like Citrix and VMWare Horizon, it does not appear to fully meet the requirements of Ray Baum’s Act in the US in those deployments. Ray Baum’s Act requires that a telephone system send a dispatchable location to the public safety access point. Microsoft Teams can be made compliant with Ray Baum’s Act in a Citrix environment as described in this article under "Support for Dynamic E911"https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/multimedia/opt-ms-teams.htmlMicrosoft Teams can be made compliant with Ray Baum’s Act in a VMWare Horizon environment as described in this article:https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon-Client-for-Windows/2309/horizon-client-windows-installation/GUID-A3F39AB4-BD8F-4353-BE71-ACA7F3D04B6D.htmlI would ask for your development team to implement the same location awareness into the RingCentral client in a VDI environment so that the application automatically detects if the end user is connecting in from a new location or endpoint. If this is not possible or will take a considerable amount of time and development effort, I would ask that you implement an ability to periodically prompt users in a VDI environment to confirm their 911 address. Having these two choices would be ideal:Allow the administrator to select a recurring timeframe to prompt VDI users with something like “In accordance with Federal Law and to ensure the safety of persons using this softphone, we must periodically verify the address to which emergency services will be sent if you call 911. The address currently on file for you is (x). Please click Confirm if this is correct, or Update to enter your current address”Allow the administrator to specify a particular day of the month after which the user must verify their dispatchable address. In our environment, most people move on the 1st of the month, it would be ideal to prompt VDI users on the 5th or 7th, or the first Monday after the 1st of the month to verify their dispatchable address. Extra bonus points for “a specific day of the month after 90 days” so they’re not being constantly prompted but after 90 days they get prompted on the designated day .
