Endless Notifications
My team uses direct messages regularly. As a fully remote team, it's a staple for our communication repertoire. Also, this idea probably sounds counterintuitive to the trend of reducing "noise", however, as an autistic person, I tend to get very focused, sometimes hyper-focused, on whatever I'm doing and entirely miss messages to me. This frustrates teammates as well as myself because as a fully remote team, it is expected that you respond to a direct message pretty quickly. RingCentral does not have any accessibility options to handle this, and the ones for Windows are insufficient. I know I could flash the entire screen for notifications, but that's just too jarring, especially when you have three large monitors in front of you. It would be nice if RingCentral could notify me of unread messages (preferably direct ones in my case) in any of the following ways:
All these should be done with the following conditions:
The behavior should continue until the app is opened and the conversation is selected long enough for it to no longer be bold and/or no longer have an unread message count badge. This should be configurable on a per-conversation basis because I'm sure other people out there have conversations that they never read. There should also be a default setting for new conversations. Maybe a "Use custom default custom settings", or a "Use standard RingCentral settings" for new conversations. Of course, all this should be suppressed during meetings.
Subtle:
1. Flash or do something visually attracting to the system tray icon. The red dot is insufficient.
- Flash the task bar icon (if present)
Less Subtle:
1. Configure the selected notification sound to repeat every few seconds under the same conditions as above
Add a separate volume control to the message notifications so they can be louder than other stuff
Add notification sounds that last longer than 1/4 of a second
Flash the title bar of the window if it is open
Add annoying notification sounds like a klaxon or something
Obvious:
1. If the window is open, flash the entire thing
- Display a pop-up notice in the center of the screen (any screen)
These ideas may sound weird, because so much media talks about how to avoid being broken out of focus. In my experience, the frustration of being broken out of focus is far less than having to deal with 8 irritated team members all asking why you didn't respond to their messages.
