Separate Ring Order for Different Mobile App Device Types (Phone vs Tablet)
Request Summary:
Introduce the ability to configure separate ring order and routing behavior for different device types under the RingCentral mobile app category (e.g., smartphones vs tablets such as iPads).
Background / Current Behavior:
In the current RingCentral configuration, all devices using the mobile application (RingCentral app) are grouped under a single category labeled as “Mobile App.”
This includes:
Smartphones (iOS/Android phones)
Tablets (e.g., iPad, Android tablets)
At present, there is no option to distinguish or prioritize these device types individually when configuring call handling or ring order. As a result, both device types follow the same routing behavior.
Problem Statement:
Customers who use multiple mobile device types (e.g., both iPhone and iPad) are unable to control how calls are distributed between these devices.
Common challenges include:
Calls ringing simultaneously on both phone and tablet when only one is preferred
Inability to prioritize primary devices (e.g., mobile phone) over secondary devices (e.g., iPad)
Disruption in workflow when less frequently used devices (tablets) receive calls equally
Reduced flexibility in multi-device environments
Proposed Enhancement:
Add device-level granularity within the “Mobile App” category to allow separation of device types and configurable ring behavior.
Suggested capabilities:
Distinguish between:
Mobile Phone (iOS/Android smartphone)
Tablet (iPad/Android tablet)
Allow independent configuration of:
Ring order / priority
Simultaneous vs sequential ringing
Enable/disable per device type
Optional: Device labeling (e.g., “John’s iPhone”, “Office iPad”) for more granular control
