STIR/SHAKEN compliance for Canadian RingCentral customers
It is imperative that RingCentral become compliant with the STIR/SHAKEN protocols in Canada to authenticate and verify caller identification information for IP-based voice calls. The Canadian market regulator, the CRTC, in a decision dated 6 April 2021, notes it is a requirement as a condition of offering and providing telco services in Canada, and the compliance deadline was 30 November 2021:"The Commission directs telecommunications service providers (TSPs) to implement STIR/SHAKEN to authenticate and verify caller identification (ID) information for Internet Protocol (IP)-based voice calls as a condition of offering and providing telecommunications services, effective 30 November 2021. In addition, the Commission directs TSPs to file STIR/SHAKEN implementation readiness assessment reports by 31 August 2021 and to add certain details to those reports."As of 21 July 2022, RingCentral Support has confirmed they are not compliant with STIR/SHAKEN in the Canadian market and do not have an ETA for such compliance. This is affecting our business, as calls made from our RingCentral extensions are being flagged by other Canadian telcos as potentially fraudulent, or spam, calls, because they are coming from a telco that has not implemented this protocol.RingCentral has a support article acknowleding compliance in the US market only:https://www.ringcentral.com/us/en/blog/stir-shaken/
