Improve Fax Service Compatibility with Special Characters and Emojis in User Extension Names
We would like to request an enhancement to improve the compatibility and validation handling of special characters, Unicode symbols, and emojis within user extension display names, specifically for RingCentral Fax services.
In a recent support investigation, outbound fax functionality consistently failed for a user who had an emoji included in their extension display name. After removing the emoji and refreshing the user session, outbound faxing immediately resumed normal operation.
While emojis and Unicode characters are generally accepted in user profile names across the platform, certain backend fax services or integrations may not fully support these characters, leading to unexpected service disruptions without any visible warning or validation message.
Requested Enhancements:
Add full backend support and normalization for Unicode characters and emojis across all fax-related services and APIs.
Implement validation checks when unsupported characters may impact fax functionality.
Display a warning or advisory message to administrators when special characters in display names could affect fax processing.
Improve logging and error visibility for cases where user profile metadata contributes to fax transmission failures.
Business Impact:
This issue can result in failed outbound faxes without clear indication of the root cause, increasing troubleshooting time for both customers and support teams. Since display names are often customized for branding, personalization, or identification purposes, the platform should either fully support these characters or proactively warn users about potential limitations.
Expected Outcome:
Administrators and end users should be able to use emojis or special Unicode characters in extension names without negatively impacting fax functionality or other backend communication services.
