Spoof Prevention / Prevent RingCentral numbers from being Spoofed by Fraudulent Services
Account type: RingCentral MVP StandardA brief description of the business : naA high level description of the product or feature being requested: In the future, it would be great if there was some way to program the telephone service where a fraudulent entity would have no means of spoofing a number that is not legally theirs. A typical use case scenario explaining how your business would use the feature: Just for the numbers to only be usable for the subscribers that are on its own account, and be inaccessible for caller id use from fraudsters. It's hard to just keep replacing numbers, when it can be taken over and be fraudulently used by others.Benefit of such feature: business need

This is a continued problem. We have folks from several towns over calling in and asking why we are giving them calls. There is no record of us making any of these outgoing calls. It is 2026. There are plenty of existing frameworks that would prevent this issue by verifying with operators whether a call is being made by the company that controls the number. Please fix this, as many of your users are smaller businesses whose community reputations can be damaged by such calls.

Our main line was spoofed to impersonate an IT support person, in an attempted voice-drive social engineering campaign. Having some detection mechanism in place for inbound caller ID spoofing can go a long way to help thwart these types of attacks.

We've been receiving calls on our internal business lines from people asking why we called them/requesting we stopped calling them.
We never called, and these numbers are not published anywhere!
We're a small community oriented business and this kind of thing is going to end up seriously damaging our reputation. -

If RingCentral can't bring this to bear, we'll be looking at more mature phone systems that prevent this from happening. Especially with AI, voice cloning, etc., Ring Central needs to make this a top priority ASAP.

This has to be a Ring Central problem. I don't hear of other companies having this same issue. We continue to get daily complaints about our numbers being used when it's not us.

This shows as planned with a 2022 date - can we get an update on what the ETA is for it?

We had a PSTN caller spoof a ringcentral managed/hosted number and call another ringcentral user. As a result, the call looked completely trusted, as ringcentral then included the real users caller id.
I understand the complexity in blocking all spoofed PSTN calls, but it should be possible to have the ringcentral network tell the client app that the call is from an external PSTN network, and then the cleint app can then compare to the numbers in its phonebook - if a call is coming in from a PSTN with a DID of a number in the phonebook, then mark the caller ID as "potentially spam" or similar.

Subject: Unknown calls
Description: According to call logs and the recipients backup it up, we see that our CEO, XXXXXXX ext 5200, made a call to another employee, XXXX XXXX ext 5216, at 11:36am. However, we followed up with Bruce and he claims he never made that call since he was in a meeting. His desk phone also doesn't show that an outbound call was made by him so we aren't sure how this call was being made.
Is there some way you can tell us if this call came from a physical phone or possible one of his RC apps? -

We have received multiple calls in recent days from folks reporting repeated calls from our business number. We have no record of contacting any of these folks.
If this number spoofing is not resolved, it could tarnish our reputation in the community.

it is highly important that our number is not used by any other persons or entity moving forward

I have a healthcare business and have been getting angry calls from people saying they are going to report my number for spamming them, when we have no log of calling them. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

This feature should be implemented ASAP. We are also getting a lot of callers complaining of harrassing calls appearing to originate from numbers assigned to our system.

Subject: Spoofed phone numbers
Description
We'd like to report that we are receiving calls from frustrated people saying our phone number called them and then hung up. We have no record of the outgoing phone calls - these would be calls from our extension lines. It appears that someone is using out phone numbers to dial out. Please let us know what we need to do to stop this from happening. Thanks! -

I spoke to tech support about this and they sent me this link and told me to post my comment regarding this. I've had multiple calls to my active line with Ring Central. The majoritiy have been telemarketers wanting me to register my line with Siri search but a few recently have been spoofing calls. Here is a screenshot of my most recent call log screen.

This is continuously occurring. Scammers are spoofing our Ring Central numbers, calling victims, and then victims are calling back directly to our end users to curse them out. This needs to be addressed ASAP.

We have received multiple calls over the past couple of weeks where the caller is asking why we called. There is no outbound record of these calls in RingCentral but the callers insist that we called. The most recent caller stated they will be reporting our business to the BBB due to the non-stop calls. There has to be a recourse to stop spoofing calls. It is now past the nuisance stage and is affecting our business in an extremely negative way.

This is an ongoing problem with our company. We have gotten multiple complaints that someone is using our phone number to spam people with up to 20 calls each.
