Create threads from messages
When there are a large number of members in a team it would be nice to be able to create a thread from a single message. This pulls that particular conversation out of the main flow of messages so the conversation doesn't get lost and can be continued by only the applicable parties.

This is available across all RingCentral accounts as of 3/4/2025, please ensure you are on the latest version of the app. Thank you!

Is there a particular version this has been implemented in, or is this in an upcoming release?

When is this going to be launching? It appears to be "planned" but have not seen any additional updates here, as this would optimize the flow of work in ring central messaging monumentally.

I'd love the "quote" feature to only include the first line of the message and link back to the original message to see the full content. The log gets pretty clogged up when a message is very long, and people keep quoting multiple quotes after the original message. It would be great if you had a "reply" feature in addition to "quote" (or instead of it) that allowed you to respond within a message in a conversation style, similar to Facebook. This would allow you to collapse messages with many responses and expand when needed. Active conversations with new replies would then appear at the bottom of the list as unread once a new reply is created. This is particularly helpful when we post celebratory messages for birthdays and anniversaries that result in an onset of multiple gifs and comments without missing the original message (or having to scroll back up dozens of responses to find it).

At the current time it’s not enough to answer with a smile on a team (chat) message. A person who wrote a message, cannot understand what you meant while answering with an emoji to his message. If the whole team shares an idea via “Quote”, there is a possibility of losing some messages and there will be a dozen of important messages in the your team chat (which are unimportant)That’s why I want to propose a “Comment (Thread) for a team (chat) messages” feature. The main idea of this feature is:Add “Comments” (Threads) icon for a group message in the right side of a messageAfter click on it, text field appear (The the same as we have for emoji)When the comment (thread) was added to a message, information will be displayed near a message as a dot of some color. (It should be displayed on the right side from the status and “Guest” info)After clicking on the dot, the comment (thread) will be displayed. The comment (thread) should be surrounded with the color of the chosen dot.As a result we can add some unimportant comments to your messages without annoying other team members. If you want to notify a person you still can use “Quote” optionNotes: We can limit comments (threads) option e.g. 10 comments (threads) is maximumComments (threads) symbols size also can be limited as Comments (Threads) it’s just for notifying.Comments (threads) should have an Edit option.Comments (threads) option can be enabled for the certain team (chat)

This idea cleans up the chat when there are a lot of responses to a specific chat post.

A threading feature is extremely needed. Often important needs are buried in all the chat responses.
A thread would allow the team to discuss a topic while a new one can be brought up.

2 ideas but related - On the Windows and web app it would be great for the ability to thread the messages (with my posts always appearing on the right). And also to pop a single thread out of a message stream to make it easier to follow. Even pop entire message stream so when have multiple running can easily monitor

This would be an awesome feature if you could make it like Slack that we can reply to a thread of conversation.

It would be great to have the option of replying to any message on Glip and starting a sub-thread. Right now, the only option is to reply to tasks or to quote a message and use that as a way to reply. Having the option of creating sub-threads would clean up the chat a bit and would also help to keep all pertinent messages together so that we don't have to go scrolling through to find all the pieces.

Like slack, create a thread on one message to continue the conversation only on that particular message. Keeps the rest of the team chat clean and you won't miss messages in between multiple conversations.

MS Teams allows you to reply to a specific message within a Teams Channel - this saves quoting and makes it very easy for someone to read all related posting in a single thread. The entire thread gets carried as a recent posting so you don't have search through all the postings to follow the conversation. I've used Slack and MS Teams extensively and this is one area where MS Teams has an edge in usability.

Can't believe there still isn't a "Reply" or "Sub-Threading" option in chat. We loved this in SLACK. Questions and replies via "quote" are cumbersome and specific threads / thoughts get lost way to easily. You should be able to "Reply" to specific message to keep these thoughts together. Alternate approach would be having sub-threads in a team / chat... So users could create a dedicated conversation within the team to keep sub-processes together.Example:Team Chat (Project XYZ)User Sub-Thread: Development ConcernsUser Sub-Thread: Deployment ScheduleIdeally users would have the ability to take any message in chat and select "make sub-thread" to create a separate chat space for that topic.

Threading is a great feature that allows people to have multiple conversations at once in the same channel. This is a pretty common feature in messaging tools now, and Glip should support it.
